Professional perspective

From actuarial depth to broader advisory judgement.

Founder-led. Network-enabled. Clearly accountable.

My career has been built across life and general insurance, reinsurance and consulting, with experience in Mexico, the United States, Canada and Switzerland. That international perspective helps me distinguish what is universal from what must be adapted to a client’s market, governance and operating reality.

I founded Arocha & Associates in Zurich in 2011 to offer an independent, senior-led alternative: focused teams, direct access to the person doing the thinking, and advice that remains understandable after the presentation ends.

The firm combines that direct senior involvement with a trusted network of independent specialists and experienced collaborators. Depending on the assignment, we can assemble complementary expertise around the client’s needs while maintaining one clearly accountable lead throughout the engagement.

Today, that actuarial foundation extends naturally into climate risk and data science. The disciplines differ, but the questions are closely related: What does the evidence say? Where are the material gaps? What can management do next?

Three connected lenses

Technical depth, joined around the decision.

Arocha & Associates combines three complementary areas of practice. Climate risk is the principal area of development, supported by long-standing insurance experience and modern analytical capability.

Selected specialist training includes GARP’s Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) Certificate, the Society of Actuaries’ Climate Risk Certificate Program, and MIT IDSS’s Data Science and Machine Learning: Making Data-Driven Decisions programme.

Selected experience

A career across markets, institutions and points of view.

The following is deliberately selective. The point is not to reproduce a CV, but to show the range of settings that informs the advice.

Insurance & reinsurance Technical and management questions spanning life and general insurance.
Global consulting Experience including Watson Wyatt and Hewitt Associates.
International markets Work undertaken across the Americas, Europe and other regions.
Independent practice Founder-led advice through Arocha & Associates since 2011.

Educator, mentor & professional contributor

Good advice should leave capability behind.

Teaching and mentoring are part of how I practise. They impose a useful discipline: if an idea cannot be explained clearly, it is probably not ready to guide a decision.

  • Mentor in the Integrated Project course within Columbia University’s Master of Science in Actuarial Science programme.
  • Contributor to the actuarial profession through the Society of Actuaries.
  • Speaker and writer on actuarial practice, climate risk, modelling and governance.

Away from client work, I value teaching, mentoring, reading and the occasional game of chess—all useful reminders that better questions usually precede better answers.
